Andrew Garfield to Bring Christianity to Japan in Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’

With Leonardo DiCaprio taking a self-imposed break from filmmaking, Martin Scorsese needs another muse to work with and that muse is…Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield. The Social Network star has joined the production of Silence in the lead role of Father Rodrigues. This is an adaptation of a Shusaku Endo novel based on 17th century Jesuits as they attempt to bring Christianity to Japan. Ken Wantanabe of Inception fame will play Garfield’s interpreter. Silence will be the actor’s follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which is currently filming for a May 2014 release. As for Scorsese, his next film is another DiCaprio presentation, a contemporary drama called The Wolf of Wall Street debuting this November.
